9 Ball at Eagle LA
This past Sunday, the Los Angeles Pool League held a 9 Ball tournament 'fun'draiser at the Eagle-LA.
A big thank you to Charlie, the Sunday morning cleaning ladies and especially Marcus for opening early and getting the bar ready for business at noon.
I am very happy to tell everybody who did not make it on Sunday that it was our largest turn out in the last 3 1/2 years.
25 players registered for theRace to 2/Race to 1, double elimination tournament. Any legal 9 ball breaks were rewarded with Eagle L.A. drink tickets. In total, 8 drink tickets were given during the entire tournament. Every hour during the tournament we had a raffle drawing for 'Mystery "$" Envelopes' and a pool cue donated by Paul Hughes in memory of Ricky Bravo. Jose Torres finished the day with 3- 9 ball breaks in a row to plow through the last of his competition in the Loser's bracket and face our 'King of the Hill' Brenden Quigley.
After some awesome play, Jose was able to de-throne Brenden and take home 1st Place. Congratulations to our top 3 finishers:
1st Place- Jose Torres
2nd Place- Brenden Quigley
3rd Place- Ken Lee
Brenden did not win 1st Place but he did take home the 21oz Da Vinci pool cue.
Also, special thank you's to some of the players that showed up to support us. Ken, Dan, Erik and Crash from our sister city in Long Beach and Travis and Jake who had to sit out this season but made it out to the fundraiser on Sunday.
Thank you to the Board of Governors for donating $60 in gift cards. Also, thank you to Tod and myself for donating the hard cold cash envelopes.
Our next tournament 'Fun'draiser is on May 8th, Mothers Day, at Jerry's Family Billiards. Registration is $15 and opens at 12 noon for this 8 Ball tournament that begins at 1pm. The format will be Race to 2, double elimination, alternating break and as some of our past tournaments have taught us, we will start the day with a 1 minute shot clock (with a 1 minute extension per player per rack).
Come out and support our League on Mothers Day. All Mothers are welcome!!! even if yours is a real 'Mutha!!!'
