2022
On March 13th the Los Angeles Pool League held our Johnny Cochran Memorial Greased Lightning tournament at the Eagle LA.
Thank you to Charlie and all the staff for taking care of us on Sunday afternoon and evening.
A total of 16 players competed in a race to 2 while under a 15 second shot clock. We had a few unexpected guests who did very well by the end of play.
First place was won by Lauren Ward who came up to play from the Long Beach pool league, 2nd place was won by Brendan Quigley from one of our Jerry's Family Billiards teams and our 3rd place finisher was long time member Scott Holocek who even though not on a roster this season, still came out to support the League and brought a friend visiting from Chicago, Lou.
Another surprise participant was Marty Brennan. Marty was a Captain in our League before moving to beautiful, affordable, slow paced, Rochester, New York with his other half a year or so ago. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the League, remember Johnny and have fun.
This past Sunday the Los Angeles Pool League held it's first 'fun'draiser of the Spring 2022 season, the 'Lucky Draw'. Thank you to Jerry's Family Billiards for hosting us and Natalie for opening up early on a Sunday morning and keeping everybody hydrated.
Fourteen players names were put into a hat and drawn out one at a time to create the 7 competing teams.
At the mid way point a raffle for a pool cue and custom designed 'Lucky Draw' t-shirt was held for the first time players in the League. Congratulations to Jen for winning the custom shirt and Patrick for winning the pool cue. A big thank you to Paul Hughes for the pool cue donation and Tod Davenport for the two custom 'Lucky Draw' shirts. The second shirt was won by Al Ballesteros in a seperate drawing.
At the end of the day our 'King of the Hill' team of Steve Duckman and Ken Lee was de-throned by the momentum of team Bryan Haneiwich and Brendan Quigley emerging from the Loser's bracket after three wins in a row. Congratulations to Arnell Ferry and Tod Davenport our 4th Place team, Jose Torres and Paul Hughes our 3rd Place team, Ken and yours truly our 2nd Place team and Bryan and Brendan our 1st Place finishers.
Our next 'fun'draiser is on Sunday, March 13th at the Eagle L.A. It is our Johnny Cochran Memorial 'Greased Lightning' tournament. Can you beat your opponent at 8 ball on a 15 second shot clock? Come out and find out!!!!!! This was Johnny's favorite and our fastest moving tournament usually won by some of our slowest playing members!!!! Go figure! Beats me!!
Registration begins at 12 noon and tournament play begins at 1pm. $15/person. Open to all members and non members. Any skill level. Bring a friend. Meet a friend. Make a friend.
See you there!!

The Lucky Draw Tournament was held at Jerry's on November 27. There were 12 players that signed up. Due to the low number, the group decided to turn the tournament into an Individuals Tournament.
The winners were: 1st - Eric Duran, 2nd - Chris Tags, 3rd was Al Ballesteros and 4th was Ernesto Lopez.
Thanks to everyone that came out to play.
The Hi-Lo and Inividuals were played earlier this month.
The Hi-Lo winners are:
1st - Jose/John
2nd - Steve/Phil
3rd - Arnell/Tod
The Open Individuals Tournament was held at Jerry's Billiards on January 14. Due to a lack of attendance caused by the rain, the Women's Tournament was not played.
The Open was a competitive event with Patrick Yacoub ultimately taking first place followed by Arturo Carrillo in second, Ray Brewer in third and Ken Lee in the fourth spot. This was a great showing by Patrick in our league who played some great pool to come out on top. This was also a strong showing for Arturo Carrillo and perhaps the highest he's finished in this event. Congratulations to him. Ray Brewer and Ken Lee also held their own to round out the top spots. Laurie Jow who usually plays in the Women's Tournament played in the Open and took sixth place, so good job Laurie.
Once again, congratulations to all our top 8 winners and especially to top Open Individual Patrick.
We will schedule an official Awards Ceremony and trophies to be given to our top individuals, hi-lo team, team and winners of our fundraising tournaments. This ceremony will be held within the first few weeks of this Spring 2023 season and will be a celebration for all to enjoy.
