On the Subject of Us

The Los Angeles Pool League is a voluntary organization of individuals committed to organize and supervise eight ball competition in an environment of fun and friendship. Membership is open to anyone who supports the goals and guidelines of the League.  It is primarily a LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi, transgender) league but membership is open to anyone comfortable playing pool in a gay bar.

In the Spring of 1974 a group of individuals (see history) met and formed the Los Angeles Pool League. Since that time the organization has maintained two 10 week seasons (Spring and Fall) and a play-off schedule to pick winners.

Dues, fundraising events, some sponsors, and donations have provided the  finances of the League. The League is governed by a seven member board elected by the members. The board elects the officers who's job is to conduct the League's day to day business and organize its events.

In 1980 the League became involved in association with the San Diego Pool Association and the San Francisco Pool League in a statewide event held yearly and named the West Coast Challenge (WCC). The  Long Beach Pool League joined in 1986 (at WCC XII in LA) to round out the field to include the 4 major cities in California. This event has been held twice yearly (January and July), rotating between the cities.

Throughout the years, The LAPL has supported a variety of community charities (APLA etc.) with generous donations of time and money. This was recognized by our winning of the Thomas Waddell Sports Achievement Award presented by Christopher Street West in 1989.
