Rick Ayres Sportsmanship Award
Rick Ayres joined the L.A. Pool League in 1983 at the age of nineteen.
He was encouraged to join as an “alternate” for one of the four teams from the Four Star Saloon headed by the Captain and former six-term President Marvin Beisel. Marvin liked young, pretty “boys."
Since that first season, Rick has played on teams from many sponsoring locations. They include:
Four Star, Westside, Rawhide, Mr. Mike’s, In Touch, In Touch East, Bunkhouse, Lodge, Shooterz, Rafters, FUBAR, Trunks, Gold 9, Jox, MoonShadow, Oxwood and Gold Coast.
Rick has won the League Open Individuals 3 times. He has been a member of numerous championship teams. He was part of the WCC championship team in July 1994 (Burbank Hilton) with fellow teammates Don Carrier, Jack Frohman, Dan Klapp, Frank Bustamante and Don Lee.
Rick has 2 second place finishes in the WCC Open Individuals as well as a HI/LO championship in San Francisco with his partner Kerri Frasca.
Rick has been a stalwart supporter of an endless number of our fund raising tournaments and special events; a member of the WCC Hall of Fame and now….one of only 9 members in our history to receive the high honor (since Spring 1974) of the "Frank Bustamante Sportsmanship Award” re-named in Frank’s honor in December 2009.
