Week Three Playoffs and Hi-Lo S2018
Dear LAPL Members,
10-Ball Tournament: This past weekend, LAPL hosted a 10-Ball tournament and we had a turn-out of 17 players. It was a fun tournament and in the end, it was a pleasure to watch the final match between Nakib Chowdhury (Yes NAKIB) and Malisa Mapu. Nakib took 1st; Malisa 2nd; Andy Rodriguez (Gabriel's son), took 3rd Place and Jose Torres took 4th Place. You can watch the final matches with Andy vs. Malisa and Nakib vs. Malisa on YouTube by going to our Facebook page and clicking on the match. 8-Ball Tournament - The LAPL also held an 8-Ball money tournament alongside the 10 ball event. In the end, it was also Nakib who took 1st place; followed by Arnell who took 2nd; Malisa took 3rd and Al took fourth. Money was paid out to 1st through 3rd place. Nakib has not played a game in the LAPL for four years; he is visiting Los Angeles and now lives in Bangladesh with his wife and child. Good to see Nakib back.
Playoffs: Tomorrow night will be round 3 of playoffs. Oh the excitement and anticipation builds. There are twelve teams left and after tomorrow there will be 8. Please check the brackets on our website to see where your games will be played. Good luck and play well.
Hi-Lo: Our first West Coast Challenge qualifying event will be the Hi-Lo and will be held this Saturday, April 28 @ Jerry's Billiards with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and play starting at 10 a.m. You must register before 10 a.m. This will be a scotch doubles tournament where you will get a partner based on ranked standings with the highest players paired with the lower score players. This is a fun tournament and we hope to have a great turn-out.
Board Elections: On Saturday, April 7 the BOG met. We discussed the Board of Governors' nominations for next season. There were four open seats and nominated were: Ran Refael, Gibbi Tkatch, Marisol Lopez and Cliff Giles, Jr. Being that there were only four candidates for four open seats, the board voted to accept the nominations and move these individuals to the board to fill the open seats. Marisol Lopez will begin her first term on the board next term and is the newest member. We welcome her.
WCC LA Summer 2018 Workgroup: If you have any interest in joining this workgroup, please contact the BOG here at this email address. As of this time, Malisa Mapu has been charged with being our Tournament Chair and will run the WCC play and all of the mini-tournaments. Malisa will need help from other members that she will appoint to assist with various components of running the WCC. We thank Malisa for taking this challenge on. Julian has volunteered to assist with the hotel interactions around food and beverage needs for the WCC. Jose has volunteered to assist with organizing the WCC program book and banners. There are numerous tasks which need assistance so anyone wishing to assist, please speak to a member of the board or email us here.
Awards Party: We are going to try something new. The Awards Party will be held on Saturday, June 16 @ 12 noon at a private residence in the Hollywood Hills. We will recognize our top 7 individual players, our 4 top women, our top team and our hi-lo team with trophies/plaques.
