Week Nine Spring 2018
Dear LAPL Members,
This is our final week of regular play. Wow. Can't believe another regular season will soon be over. We hope everyone had a great time.
Playoffs will be on Tuesdays: Playoffs will begin next Tuesday, April 10. Please check the calendar for dates. We are piloting for this season having playoffs on Tuesdays only. This might add a couple of weeks to the playoffs for those teams which make it to the later rounds and we thank you for your understanding.
Hi-Lo: Our first West Coast Challenge qualifying event will be the Hi-Lo and will be held on Saturday, April 28 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and play starting at 10 a.m. You must register before 10 a.m. We hope to send a strong team to WCC as we are defending this trophy as Ran Rafael and Ray Brewer won the WCC for LA last season. So, please. Practice between now and then and come out and play. This will be a scotch doubles tournament where you will get a partner based on ranked standings with the highest players paired with the lower score players.
Meeting of the BOG and WCC LA Summer 2018 Workgroup: We will have a meeting of the BOG on Saturday, April 7 starting at 12:30 p.m. at Jerry's Billiards in Pasadena. We will have a finance committee report, playoff chair report and address any pending matters from this season. Immediately following the meeting of the BOG, we will have a meeting of the WCC Workgroup. If you are interested in assisting in helping us plan for the WCC which LA will be hosting July 6-8, please email us here or come to the meeting.
JR/SR Tournament - Our JR/SR tournament was held on March 18. On the Senior side, Dale Beattie took first place, followed by Jose Torres in Second and Cliff Giles, Jr., in third and Joe Nealon in fourth. On the Junior side, Ran Refael, took first followed by Inmar Martinez in Second, Marco Belamonte in Third and Andy Rodriguez in fourth. This was Marco's first trophy in the LAPL, so congratulations; also, Andy Rodriguez was the youngest player to trophy and is still in his mid-teens. There was a final match played between Dale and Ran for Champion of the ages. In the end, Dale won for the Seniors. Thank you to all who came out to play.
Till next time, shoot well and have fun.
Sincerely yours,
Al Ballesteros
