Week Nine
Dear League Members,
There is a lot going on so I’m hoping you will read this whole e-mail to be informed.
JR/SR Tournament:
Join us at Trunks Sunday, April 3, for our bi-annual Junior/Senior fundraising tournament! This is a double-elimination 8-ball tournament, broken down by age. The older half go toe-to-toe on one table, while the younger half will face off on the other. The winner on each side will face off for the "Champion Of The Ages!" Registration at Trunks starts at 12:30 PM & ends at 1 PM. Entry fee is $15. See you there!
Free Coaching Session for New Players and others – April 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Trunks:
For our new players or those that want to work on their game, the Los Angeles Pool League will host a free coaching session at Trunks this Sunday, April 3 @ 10 a.m. before the JR/SR Tournament. The session will be taught by long-time league members and will focus on game fundamentals and strategy. This free session will be a good opportunity for new members to gain some understanding from those with experience that may help them improve their games and level of play. We look forward to seeing you there.
BOG Elections:
Elections will take place this coming week to fill four open seats on the Board of Governors. A league representative will bring ballots around for your vote during week 10. Those running for a seat are: Cliff Giles, Jr., Matt Reilly, Gibbi Tkatch, Jeff Nii, Kerri Frasca and Justin Yau. We plan to count the Votes on Wednesday night, April 6 at 7 p.m. @ Casita del Campo, located at 1920 Hyperion Avenue, LA, CA 90027. We will meet there and get a table in the restaurant.
Also on the Ballot:
There will also be a proposed West Coast Challenge Rule that needs to be voted on by our members with respect to fees for each cities’ participation at the WCC. What this change does is simply “pay-forward” a registration fee from each of the cities to the host city of the West Coast Challenge to help with costs. So, when our players participate in San Diego, Long Beach or San Francisco as a league we would provide those cities with a $500 registration fee for our members. When we host the WCC in Los Angeles, the three other cities will provide our league with $500 each to defer expenses. So the costs would be exactly the same as they would be if this rule was not adopted, but this rule would ease the “cash flow” for each of the host cities when they are responsible for hosting the challenge. The motion on the ballot will read as follows:
Current Rule
4.3 The registration deadline for eligible players is 12:00 noon Friday. After the deadline, no changes in registration will be permitted. During registration any member of the team can check-in the whole
team, any member of the Hi/Lo can check-in the Hi-Lo players, but all other individual must check-in themselves.(Rev. 1/99, 7/10)
Proposed Change
4.3 A flat registration fee of $500 from each participating city shall be sent to the Host City. City registration fee is due 30 days prior to the start of hosted WCC event. Payment shall be sent to the attention of the President of the hosting WCC city. The registration deadline for eligible players is 12:00 noon Friday. WCC Los Angeles, July 8-10, 2016:
The BOG is looking for volunteers the help organize the WCC activities via a Committee that will begin meeting in April. We need assistance with planning, general logistics leading to and during the events. We also need assistance with fundraising. If you can help, please contact us here. We will let you know when the first meeting will be scheduled.
Memorial Service for Jim Stramel and Donations to Transport Cats:
We have be notified that a memorial service for Jim Stramel will be held on June 22 at Santa Monica College where he was a teacher. When we get additional information about the memorial, time and exact location we will send that out in a e-blast to the membership. As you know, Jim had two cats and a home has been identified for those cats with a dear friend of Jim in upstate New York. However, the cost of shipping the cats is approximately $600. The family is seeking support to assist with this cost. If any league member wishes to make a contribution to assist with the expenses of helping these cats get to New York, please contact us here at the BOG at this email address. Any amount will help.
