Week Six
Dear Members,
I hope your games are improving and that you are having fun as this season moves along.
10 Ball Tournament Results: We hosted a very fun and successful 10-Ball tournament this past Sunday at Trunks Bar in West Hollywood. It was a very competitive double-elimination tournament and in the end, Marty Brennan took first place, followed by Justin Yau in Second and Al Ballesteros in Third and Vic Karanfilian in Fourth. Congratulations to the winners and all those who came out.
Note from the Statistician: Bryan would like captains to use the LAPL website to submit match scores. Text messaging him the score sheets is not an optimal way of getting scores in and thus is being highly discouraged.
Board Elections: We want to remind our members that nominations remain open for the Board of Governors and we will be electing to four open seats. Should you wish to run for the Board, please write your name on the score sheet before the end of week seven. So far, we have one person running, Cliff Giles, Jr. We are looking for diversity on our board, meaning women and perhaps representation from some of LAPL's younger and newer players.
Lucky Draw Tournament: Sunday, March 22 we will host a Lucky Draw 8 Ball Tournament at the Eagle LA. Sign-up begins at 12:30 p.m. and play starts at 1:00 p.m. Attention Captains and New Players: Our Vice President and Fundraising Chair, Jon Bourgault will be providing a Free Admission to this event for ALL New LAPL Players to this Season and one free drink coupon. This is the LAPL's way to encourage participation of our new players and also to welcome them to our league. Captains, will you please inform your players about this Tournament and the Special Free Entry fee for your new players.
Pool Instruction Session: The LAPL is pleased to an- nounce that we will host a Pool Instruction Session on May 17, 2015 beginning at 10:30 a.m. just before the Last Chance Qualifier. This Instruction Session will be especially tailored for new players or players who have not yet qualified to play in a West Coast Challenge. Rick Ayres has agreed to assist as one of the instructors and we want to thank him for setting this time aside for our league's players. The session's goals will be to work with small groups on both tables to provide instruction on basic techniques as well as playing strategy. We ask our Captains to alert their players that might be interested and those that are planning to participate in the Last Chance Qualifier. We would like to especially reach out to our new players in the LAPL. If you are interested in participating, please make a note of the date. You can also email your information to us.
Talk to you next time,
Thank you. Al Ballesteros, President LAPL
