2021

Dear Members,

Next week is week 10...! Wow.  This season seems to have flown by quickly.  A couple of reminders.

First, the Pick Your Partner Scotch Doubles Tournament will be held on Sunday, September 26 with registration at 12 noon at Jerry's Billiards in Pasadena.  Get your partner and show up and enjoy the fun.

Playoffs:  The BOG will be meeting to discuss the playoff post season.  More to come on this and what the format will be.

BCA Dues:  Please give your $15 BCA dues to your captain.  We will be sending in our fees to the BCA national headquarters to sanction our members.  With your fee, you will be able to play in next year's Nationals to be held in Las Vegas March 2022.  You will also get your Fargo rating and have the opportunity for other benefits which you can find on the Cue Sports International Website.

To all the LA Pool League Players who attended the BCA nationals held last week, congratulations on a good showing.

Keep playing well, have fun and see you soon.

LAPL Board Meeting

9/30 at 8:00 p.m.

Meeting called to order at 8:20 p.m.  Members present:  Steve Duckman, Malisa Mapu, Gibbi Tkatch, Jose Torres, Cliff Giles, Jr., and Al Ballesteros.

#1
Due to continuing COVID rules, venues are still not open and play can not begin/resume.  Therefore, the season should be officially cancelled.  Motion:  End/Cancel the Fall 2020 Season (Cliff/Gibbi; unanimous).

#2
Discussed approach to membership and dues when the league is able to restart.  Motion:  Next season will be free of charge for all members when we are able to restart.  (Al/Gibbi; unanimous)

#3
The four cities Presidents met on zoom and discussed inability to schedule a WCC until each city's league is made stable after they restart.  This is due to teams being disbursed, venues being closed and players needed to reconstitute leagues.  The expense of WCC being held twice a year was also discussed in light of the current situation.  A proposal to move WCC to a once a year event was drafted by Joan of the SF Pool League for discussion and approval by each of the cities.  LA BOG discussed this proposal.  Motion was placed on the table to recommend to the membership a once a year WCC (Al/Gibbi; unanimous).

Finance report.  Cliff reported there is $1,138.24 in the savings account/help account; and $10,352.13 in the league checking account.  Outstanding are payables of approximately $1,200, primarily to A. Ballesteros for 2019/2020 league fees paid to BCA which still is being reconciled and will be reimbursed.

BOG:  The members of BOG will remain in place as per motion at the last meeting until new elections can be held once the league is able to being play again.  Malisa Mapu has relocated to Washington State but has agreed to remain on the BOG for now.

Hello players!!!!

This past Sunday, the Los Angeles Pool League held it's first tournament fundraiser since March of last year.  As a matter of fact it was the same fundraiser that we ended the interrupted season with due to Corona virus restrictions, the Johnny Cochran Greased Lightning tournament at the Eagle L.A. This season the tournament and all it's proceeds are being donated to Allen Montalbano's mother in his memory.

A big THANK YOU to Charlie and all the Eagle LA staff for hosting us and opening up early on Sunday.  Special thanks to Blake who kept us well hydrated and Arturo for helping get the word out.  Also we have to thank Tod and Steve for donating the gift baskets, Hot Shot Billiards for the breaking cue and shooting gloves and our beloved Charley McFeeley for the pool ball key chains and decals.

Thanks to the 13 players who showed up and enjoyed an afternoon of fun competition and for most new players to the League, an Evelyn Wood course in speed pool.  The 15 second shot clock was a gift for some and a curse for others.

During the tournament we held the raffle and raised $175.00 in raffle ticket sales.  At the end of the afternoon we had raised a total of $370 for Allen's mother.

The final four players to finish the afternoon included 2 first time participants.  4 th PLACE went to Brian Dunsmoor from Karyn's Jerry's Billiards team, 3 rd PLACE went to Arturo Carrillo, Captain of the Eagles LA team, 2 nd PLACE went to Brenden Quigley of Rack'em Up #2 team and 1 st PLACE went to Arnell Ferry from Stroke of Genius team.
